Day 1 - On the way to Brungle

Dear Diary,
Today I woke up at 6am – I got straight up straight away.  After I made myself look good, I watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I started to watch Handy Mandy (“me like that show” :) ) . But the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is the awesomes-est out there :).

After watching the shows, Tonika woke up – the first things she said I can’t repeat here! LOL! Tonika is my cuzzie from How Big Are Your Dreams?. She was staying over at mine so that Rosie, our team leader, could pick us up together and so we could hit the road for Brungle as quickly as we could.

We stayed with my Nanny – I heard her opening the window. I went in there and said, “Good morning, Nan!”, and she said, “Good Morning!”.

She was telling me that every morning she gets up and sees like a dozen bikes go past and two motor bikes.

I put away Tonika’s bed away. Tonika texted Rosie – “Hey, where are you? We’re waiting for you!”

Rosie was at the other end of the street, near the pub. Yeah!! :] So we arranged to meet her out of the front. Coolies. So we got our bags, said goodbye to Nanny and gave her a kiss on the cheek :].

Rosie was out front – we put our bags away and drove to Maccas in Stanmore. Yummy! :]

I had a Sausage McMuffin. Tonika had two hash browns and Rosie ordered a bacon and egg mcmuffin.  And orange juice. And water.

Then we were pumping the music in the car – woo hoo!

I went on  Facebook and wrote, “pumpin da music in the car ft Tonika and Rosie”.

I got 6 likes and 8 comments on Facebook! Yay me! LOL.

We were on the road, hanging out and talking. I don’t know how long it was.

We found a stall by the side of the road selling fruit – we bought mangoes, plums, nectarines and cherries.  We gave that fruit away to people we met later, including my family! We tasted some of it ourselves – we had mangoes first – they were so yummy!

Rosie and Tonika kept throwing mango peel in the bush. There as a council worker there who kept looking at them and then, when they were finished eating, he came over and cleaned them up and came to the car and just stood there. He wasn’t happy. Oh well, it was for the birds :].

We set off again and Rosie showed us her old house and her friend’s house. And she showed us Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s house from the front.

And then onto the Hume Highway – highlights included the dog on the tucker box 5km from Gundagai.

We stopped and had lunch in a place with trains.

Food is important to me so this is what we ate.

I had a ham, cheese and tomato toastie. So did Rosie. And Tonika ordered a bowl of chips with chicken salt and BBQ sauce. There was this antique thingy there and Tonika and I walked in and got the shivers.  We went into the old train carriage – we got the shivers again, so we quickly walked out and sat down at the table. We told Rosie she should go in the antique part – Tonika went with her and by the time they got back, the FOOD was ready. Yay!

While we were eating, a buzzer kept going off in the restaurant and Tonika kept saying, “It’s Toby! He’s hungry! Toby’s angry”, as though there was a ghost there. I just kept on laughing, while eating the toastie. :]

Then we finished eating and we said goodbye to the people in the café.

We saw a place that sold old woolen clothes – ewwy!! LOL! So, we went inside. Rosie saw an Aboriginal blanket – she didn’t buy it. But she did buy a book about making clothes.

And then off we went again, headed for Brungle.

There was a lookout on a hill – the view was amazing! I couldn’t believe it!

We took photos while Rosie looked at a map – she was trying to find Brungle.

Eventually, we found it. We took photos at the sign that said, “Welcome to Brungle”.

We stopped at a memorial where a man was mowing the lawn. We chatted to him and he knew all the people that we came to see – Margaret, Elva, Sonni, and Shirley.

He knew them all! And we were right next door to Margaret’s house. We knocked on the door. A beautiful dog bounded out and I patted it. Tonika panicked and ran straight for the gate. LOL! I laughed at her.

Rosie kept on shouting out and a man came out. He told us Margaret wasn’t there – SAD FACE

I introduced myself and it turned out the man was Margaret’s grandson. Rosie gave her number.

Then we went to Elva’s place – I introduced myself again and we were chit-chatting LOL! She asked me how Aunty Val is going and I said, “she’s good”. Aunty Elva was happy to hear that.

We let Aunty Elva know that we wanted to get Sonni and her together to ask her some questions. We said goodbye to Aunty Elva and went to see Sonni.

But we didn’t know where she lived – we asked two lil boys who were mowing a lawn. LOL – watta good boy!

We asked them where does Sonni live – they pointed and we went there!

We went up the drive – Tonika and I kept reminding Rosie, this is trespassing. LOL. We laughed a lot.

Then Aunty Sonni came out and Rosie just looked at me and I said, “Aw, I don’t like talking first”. Sonni said something.

Finally, I introduced myself – “Hi, I’m Luwanna Cunningham. I’m Valerie’s grand-daughter.”

And Sonni said, “Aw, hello! I’m your cousin” :] and she gave me a hug and then she asked Tonika how she was related to her. Then she gave Tonika a hug too.

Rosie was talking like usual!

Aunty Sonni had a little dog – and I went to pat it but it bit me. LOL. It didn’t hurt.

We were talking about how she’s the head person of the community centre in Brungle and we arranged to meet up there to ask questions.

Oh, and I met Aunty Elva’s daughter, Rebecca too.

We were still talking….and talking….and talking.

Then we went to find our motel room but went to the information centre on the way – it had a big, black pig! OMG!!!! I was so frightened – it was SO big. LOL.

Rosie bought me this book called “Moth Hunters of the Australian Capital Territory” by Josephine Hood.

There was a gallery next door – we visited. There were animals everywhere and I was really freaked out but I took awesome photos. Ooooh yeah!

When we finished at the gallery, we finally went to our motel. The man running the motel told us about the restaurants nearby. And he gave us this yellow form to tell him what we wanted for breakfast.

We got the key to the room and Tonika took it. When she opened the door to our room, the first thing she said was, “OMG! Plasma TV!” Woohoo!

Then Rosie came to our room and gave us books to write diary entries.

Tonika and I haven’t written like this before – this is my first time doing all this. I kind of enjoy it because I’m talking about my cousins that I just met (SO EXCITED) and we spent like an hour writing!

We looked at the time – “Oh, we’d better go out for dinner” – but I was still writing. LOL! You would never thought I would do this much writing! LOL!

I’m proud of myself for doing this.

We went on the hunt for the Ellicious Restaurant (The Hub, 43 – 5 Wynyard Street, Tumut). Tonika and I went looking but it was Rosie who finally spotted The Hub! Woohoo! Finally!

We asked for a table for three – and the lady said they had one for us. I was looking at the other people in there and they looked up themselves.

We were taking photos. We poured coke into wine glasses to try to fit in – but it didn’t work!

We were teaching Rosie what esayz actually means – it was pretty funny.

Food time again – so when we ordered, it went like this:
Tonika and I had chicken (breast fillet filled with roasted capsicum, and served with a creamy tomato sauce, potato and sweet potato mash) – yummy!
We ate it all.
Rosie had sirloin – locally bred sirloin to be exact. It was char-grilled and cooked to your preference. She had it medium and it was served with a “peppercorn jus”. And we had garlic bread and  greek salad.

I got some vinegar from the greek salad in my eye and it really hurt.

We had a drive after dinner. We went up a hill and we could see all the lights below us, and the moon. It was so cool. We were taking photos – but they didn’t turn out.

We went to another hill to be closer to the moon but the photos were still not good. We drove around for a little while and then we went back to our rooms to look at all the photos we had taken. We took 330 pics! LOL. That’s alot, ay!

I came back to my room to finish this diary.
